Elegant Design

I'm currently sporting shorter locks thanks to a haircut. Even though I was reluctant (to the point of tears) it was much needed so I could have some body and dimension back into my hair and it could hold the wave better. I had completely forgotten I had ordered this top and then one day it just showed up in the mail and I could not have been happier. It's always a nice surprise to receive something in the mail (that's not bills to pay) especially when it's something you had completely forgotten about.

As soon as I pulled this top out of its packing I was instantly in love! It's a lightweight chiffon material cut in a babydoll style with this really cool and intricate paisley design all over. It's oversized and effortless and I feel like I can pair this with any sort of bottoms. It's super flowy and makes me want to just get up and dance and twirl around. I'm a lover of flares anywhere I can get them and the sleeves on this are just perfect because they're super billowy and have a bell-like quality to them. I want to wear this top everyday! I paired it with some white denim shorts, a little change from the usual blue. I think theres something so fresh and cool about white denim, something unexpected, and not to mention they practically scream s-u-m-m-e-r.

I feel like I'm all about the hats lately. I got this concho boater recently and I've already worn it twice (now a third)! The crystals in the middle of the conchos are so cool because they change colour in accordance to the light! I feel like this hat adds a little southwestern vibe to any outfit too, something I'm all about! To keep with the crystal theme I piled on two of my favourite crystal necklaces as well as my Egyptian Ankh one.

I'm currently wishing I was attending Splendour in the Grass this year. It seems as if every year the lineup is great, with this years including some of my all time fav's: Tame Impala, POND and The Babe Rainbow. And the little market booths that they set up with Australian labels and designers seem so cool, even including Spell and the Gypsy Collective. I know one day I'll be able to make the trek onto the other side of the world and experience Splendour in all it's blissful splendour. But for now I'll live vicariously through the exceeding amount of Australian clothing brands, bloggers, and bands I follow on Instagram and pretend I'm there!

Have a great weekend everyone and soak up that summer sun!

We're In Tune

I've been totally feeling in tune with my inner 60's / 70's child and then I came across this picture and it put everything into perspective.

I had just boughten a skirt almost exactly like the girl's on the left and realized this picture had been taken way back when. I decided to style this vintage inspired skirt but put my own twist on it. Something light and airy on top like this white gauze top I got in Mexico tucked into the corduroy skirt. On my feet, my favourite fringe-y moccasin boots that make me want to prance, prance, prance around, fringe blowing in the wind. I love short mod style mini skirts for the summer. Canadian winters are long and brutal, so for the less than a handful of months that my legs can see the sun I'll let them. This outfit totally fits in with the whole 60's / 70's trend that's so in right now and I'm so glad because I'm totally in love!

Old pictures and clothes can always evoke feelings of nostalgia, even for a time never lived. Looking at this photograph I can feel myself transported to the point in time when it was taken. But what those girls are talking about, or the rationale for what's in the photograph, we'll never know, but it's always fun to wonder and dig within the depths of your imagination! Vintage inspired clothes or even vintage clothes themselves are some of my favourite things. I have such an appreciation for all things of the past and love when they can be resurfaced again because with it there's so much history attached and probably a great story too!

Playlist: 60's / 70's Revival

You don't have to hop into a time machine to feel the spirit of the 60's and 70's in your bones. Hear a 60's / 70's revival in this playlist of modern songs by artists who pay homage to this era. Includes songs from: Tame Impala, Temples, Foxygen and Father John Misty.

Happy listening!

Excuse Me, While I Kiss The Sky

I love velvet. It's soft and it reminds me of my grandmother's old couch from the 60's. I was scouring the Black Friday sale that Urban Outfitters has every year and I stumbled upon this gem. Originally $170 I got this Chaser brand top for $15, now that's a deal if I ever did see one! I feel uber 60's, just like the couch, when I wear this top. The fading effect from one side of the shirt to the other is amazing and makes me feel like I'm wearing two different shirts. To top off the 60's vibes I piled on the chunky rings. One on almost every finger.

I paired this top with my red suede booties from Topshop. I love them so much but they don't get much wear this time of year due to horrid salt that eats away at the soles of your boots and is essentially, suede's arch nemesis.

The cut-outs in the back and on the shoulder act as a nice little unexpected surprise. Even I didn't initially expect to see it till I pulled the shirt off the rack!

To go off of the whole 60's velvet vibe, I couldn't help thinking of Jimi Hendrix. The man could dress! He loved playing up different textures and patterns. He is the epitome of the psychedelic 60's.
